Yup, so there are no two ways about it. I am a huge NERD
I was and I always have been. I remember falling in love with fantasy very early on, as a little girl, and being drawn to swords and sorcery. It didn't matter the form, I just couldn't pull myself away. I remember being increasingly fascinated by my brother's Fantasy Monsters Top Trump cards, and the rubber 'Monster in my Pocket' toys that were around when I was like 5. It didn't even matter that some things scared me. I wanted to immerse myself in it.
Obviously, this love grew as I became more aware and gained more agency as a child. I was able to pick and choose what I wanted to be interested in, and thankfully the 80s and 90s were a wonderful time to be a fantasy child.
My Little Pony leaned heavily into it. The very first episode of the Original Series was genuinely harrowing (I’m not even joking). There were also animations like David the Gnome and Disney’s Gummi Bears, which had that Medieval Magic feel.
When it came to films, I was spoilt for choice. The Last Unicorn, Willow, Labyrinth, Legend, The Princess Bride ... fantasy was everywhere, and I soaked it up.
This fascination grew and grew, and I became a fully fledged nerd. So please feel free to explore my different interests using the navigation on the left.
