Who is JojoBees?

39 Cancer UK She/Her INFP

Hi there. I’m Jojo.
I’m disabled, so I don’t really get many chances to interact with people. My energy levels make it hard to leave the house, and too many busy or demanding interactions can negatively affect my health.
I used to be able to do a lot more, but as I’ve gotten older, my health has declined. Being severely disabled can have a big impact on your sense of self.

I created this website because I want to show that I exist. That despite my limitations and my slowly shrinking future, I am a person with rich interests and a vibrant personality.

A small cry into the void, if you will.

I’m sure this site will mostly be me talking to myself ~ and that’s okay.

My Health

I became sick when I was 12. It was during an Exam when I suddenly started feeling really unwell.

I've never been the same since

Long and Short of it, CFS/ME sucks. While it has stolen a lot of my life, I am so much more than my Illness.

Some facts about me

I am an animist Pagan. I believe that objects, places and plants all have memories and we should look back more to our history to feel more connected to the world.

I married my best friend. We first met when we were 7, became rivals in our teens, friends in our 20s and married in our 30s.

Our house is a sea of colours and trinkets. We tend to learn into maximalism, although we have had to start reigning ourselves in because of space. Between us we have a lot of video games.

I really love bright colours and cute things and used to dress in a way that reflected that, but I’ve had to adjust my wardrobe as I became more sick. The trouble with being in a wheelchair is people tend to infantalise you, especially if you wear what they deem ‘childish colours’ I now lean more into my darker side and wear make up. My whimsigoth wardrobe and eyeliner is my armour.

When I was in my 20s I was heavily influenced by Decora fashion, so I basically dressed like a rainbow threw up on me.

I really love gadgets and I am easily distracted by new computers and things like Kindles. I think it’s because I grew up with virtual pets, the first mobile phones and portable CD players. (Granted I did have a walkman as a child, but the CD player was during my formative years)

Despite liking bright and cute stuff, I also love Horror and Dark themes.

My favourite Genre’s of music are Post Punk Revival, Cold Wave and Synth Pop. I love music that sounds upbeat but has depressing undertones.

I am one of these weird people who does not have an Inner Voice. My head is mostly silent as I cannot think in voices or sounds, rather my thoughts come through as concepts. It’s really surreal actually, as I thought that running commentaries in people’s minds was something made up for TV for the longest time. Like on Dexter!

I also have Anaphasia, so I cannot imagine things in front of me. Or ‘Visuiulise an Apple’ if you remember all the conversation about it online. I cannot imagine myself standing on a beach, or remember detailed images in my mind. Despite this I have very vivid dreams and a very strong imagination. I just don’t see in pictures. Rather concepts and emotions.

Just a Millennial Nerd

I was born in 1986.
I grew up playing with the first Gen My Little Ponies and Polly Pockets.

I'm a massive Nerd. Always loved Fantasy and Video games, for as long as I can remember.

My first Game Console was a Gameboy. I still remember the day I got it. I must have been around 6 or 7. It was a rainy day and we went shopping. When we got back in the car Mum opened the backdoor and handed it to me. It came with Kirby's Dreamland.

I remember when I first saw Pokémon being advertised in magazines. I was so excited. It's all I would talk about. Mum went and queued up outside the shops at 6am to get me both Red and Blue on release day.
My Favourite Pokémon to this day is still the Beautiful and best Leafy Boi: Bulbasaur🌿.

My older brother got me into Anime. There wasn't a huge selection in the 90s so a lot of the VHS we had were very violent and scared the shit out of me.

Thankfully as time went on more anime became available, I was able to enjoy stuff that was more my cup of tea. My brother used to import Fansubs for me on VHS as no official translations existed yet.
It's crazy how mainstream anime is these days. I used to get picked on for liking Japanese Cartoons, but you can buy Merchandise in Supermarkets now.

I was 8 when I played Dungeons and Dragons for the very first time. I was invited to play by my friend with his Dad as the Dungeon Master. We only played 3 sessions sadly but it began my love of the game.
I played a Wizard called Zelda.

When I was a kid, the only people I knew with a PC was the super rich family up the hill. It was years before I got one and even longer still till we got the Internet.

I just used it to play on Ms Paint, Solitaire and type up my own stories.

When we did get the Internet finally, I spent all my time on Gaia Online (called Go Gaia in those days) Neopets and a UK Anime Forum. I also was obsessed with MSN which was the best Messaging service.

I loved drawing and my first boyfriend gave me a drawing tablet for Digital Art. I then became hooked on Deviant Art. I still have a bunch of art of my Original Characters from my teen years.

So yeah, I'm a basic Millennial Nerd really.

In Memory

This part of my website is dedicated to my friend Miyabi from Japan. We met on the app HelloTalk back in 2022 when we were both looking for Language partners.

We'd speak once a week. She spoke pretty good English and I spoke absolutely terrible Japanese, but somehow we made it work. She had a wonderful optimistic attitude and loved rabbits.

Unfortunately Miyabi was hospitalised for a brain bleed and I never heard from her again. I miss you Miya.

I crocheted this bunny for her as a gift since she adored rabbits so much.
